This project aims to deliver an optical sensor which can measure distances to a resolution of one micron. Currently, sensors of such capability typically utilize a combination of laser emitters and optical fibers. Whilst highly accurate, these sensors are limited to use in highly controlled conditions, and are difficult to package into a sturdy compact module. The development of a high precision LED-based sensor offers a cost-effective and more robust alternative.
I am a currently in my final year of my Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, having completed my BSc in 2013. During my undergraduate degree I undertook numerous electives in Mechanical and Software engineering, and also received podium finishes in the Blakers Mathematics Competition. During my spare time I enjoy playing tennis, watching Suits, and competing on Codeforces. This project has given me a fantastic multi-disciplinary and hands-on final year experience.
